THE SNOW QUEEN By Hans Christian Andersen & Ron Nicol

The story tells of the struggle between good and evil though the eyes of two children, Gerda and her friend, Kai. Gerda must forsake everything she has to rescue her beloved playmate Kai from the snare of the magnetic Snow Queen who has imprisoned him in her ice palace.

The problem is that Kai doesn’t want to be rescued; the spell in the Splinters of Glass that have pierced his eye and his heart left him devoid of memory and feeling, his perception of love and beauty forever distorted.

On Gerda’s journey to find Kai her innocence charms all good people and animals that she meets along the way. They help her to the royal court, and on to Lapland, where good conquers evil and the children are reunited.

Ron Nicol, an award-winning Scottish playwright, later adapted the story for the stage.  Recently, the story became the basis of the tremendously successful Walt Disney film, Frozen.
